My name is Lorraine Sapet, I found out about AMHP through word of mouth. I find that people with mental health issues are stuck in a system, where they seem to stay in the system without being able to recover and live independently and happy lives. Mental health needs to work in a way where we ask the consumer what their needs are to enable them onto the path of recovery. I believe in working from the bottom up method.
I have lived experience of mental health, which is why I am passionate about making real change and creating programs that create real recovery change for consumers. People shouldn’t have to struggle on their own and practitioners need to take responsibility of providing services which are empathetic, enable consumers to take control of their mental health recovery. I work as a mental health support worker with ‘Helping Minds’ through NDIS, which gives me insight into the needs and wants of consumers struggling with mental health issues.
I believe in order to help consumers to recovery we need to incorporate mind, body and spirit through holistic methods.
I am passionate, empathetic and believe that every women, man and child deserves a chance to live a happy life, which shouldn’t be judged on their past choices but be defined by choices we can enable them to have through community informed programs.
‘Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter’ – Martin Luther King
I will never stay silent about mental health, I will keep fighting for all Australians to live happy and content life’s.
